Donating blood during work hours

Last week, Alex and Justine from the Tawkr team went to the EFS collection centre in Lille — during work hours — to donate blood.

At Tawkr, all team members who wish to donate blood or plasma can do so on company time. Because we believe commitment doesn't stop at the office door — and because the EFS is a partner we've been working alongside for several years on field awareness campaigns.

Why donating right now matters more than usual

Right now, blood and plasma reserves are under pressure. The recent heatwaves have significantly reduced donor numbers — collection centres are less attended, appointments are postponed.

As the EFS poster states: thanks to your donations, 1 million people are treated every year. That number doesn't drop in summer. The donors do.

Plasma in particular

Plasma is essential for many treatments: rare diseases, severe burns, immune deficiencies. It cannot be manufactured in a laboratory. And right now, it's plasma that's most urgently needed.

What Tawkr and the EFS do together

Tawkr has supported EFS Bordeaux in field awareness campaigns for several years — our field experts go directly to the public to explain the importance of donation, address concerns, and encourage people to take the step.

When Alex and Justine went to the Lille collection centre, it was also a way of living from the inside what we advocate from the outside.

Conclusion

Alex and Justine came back from the Lille collection centre with a plaster on their arm and a smile on their face.

It takes an hour. It can mean everything to someone they'll never meet.

FAQ -

Who can donate blood or plasma?

Anyone in good health, aged 18–70 and weighing over 50 kg. The EFS conducts a confidential medical interview before each donation.

Why does plasma run short during heatwaves?

High temperatures reduce attendance at collection centres. Donors postpone appointments, causing stocks to fall when medical needs remain constant.

What is the difference between blood and plasma donation?

Whole blood takes about 10 minutes. Plasma takes about 45 minutes and can be repeated up to 24 times per year, vs 3–4 for whole blood.

Why does Tawkr support the EFS?

Tawkr supports EFS Bordeaux with field awareness campaigns. Allowing team members to donate during work hours is a natural extension of that commitment.
